On Patrol at Bonny Hills Surf Club

Work on the new Bonny Hills Surf Club commenced in August 2009, with the demolition of the original 52 year old structure.

The new clubhouse, completed in May 2010, meets the needs of more than 340 surf club members and the thousands of people who visit Rainbow Beach at Bonny Hills, just south of Port Macquarie, every year.

Austral Masonry™ Heritage® Rockface blocks in the colour “Sydney Blend” were used on the surf club building and the perimeter retaining walls. A feature panel on the main entrance facade of the club, using Artique® “Pewter” coloured blocks, created a distinct contrast to the sandstone Heritage® blocks.

Austral Masonry™ designer range of blocks worked effectively within the design scheme of the building. The sandstone Heritage® blocks blended in well with the beach locality and function of the building whilst the charcoal blocks added to the contemporary feel of the design and form of the structure.

The exposed natural timber beams and curved steel roof completed the coastal theme of the building. The materials were used in their natural state, adding to the overall character of the building’s design.

Bonny Hills Surf Club forms a natural part of the surrounding landscape, whilst serving the community with a recreational building.

The builder for the project was Commercial Project Group, the architects David Boram & Associates and the Blocklayer was Form Bricklaying .
